February 26th, 2008: 5:35pm – This was certainly not the momentous day Leafs fans envisioned, but all things considered general manager Cliff Fletcher faired pretty well. With his hands tied on any franchise-altering deals, he added 4 draft picks (a 2nd, a 3rd, two 5ths) to the stache and shedded approximately $3,500,000 off the cap slate. I think we saw a ripple effect with Sundin’s decision to stay put. Almost certainly, if Sundin moves to a contender some of his fellow teammates decide to follow suit. Kubina was reported to be on the move to San Jose but refused to negate his no-trade. Anyone who wasn’t in control of their own fate and had a market was going to be moved by Fletcher.  Read more...
