Alexander Steen


Alexander Steen (born March 1, 1984, in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League of Swedish and Canadian background. Steen is a centre and wears number 10 on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Internationally, Alexander represents Sweden.His father is former Winnipeg Jets star Thomas Steen, a forward who scored 817 points in 950 NHL games between 1981 and 1995. Alexander has three siblings: Cassandra, Hamilton, and Amadeus.Steen played for Frölunda HC from 1999–2004. He spent the 2004/05 season with MoDo Hockey after a highly controversial signing.In the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Steen was selected in the first round by the Toronto Maple Leafs and 24th overall. He played his first game with the Leafs on October 5, 2005 during the season opener against the rival Ottawa Senators, and registered a minor penalty.His first career NHL goal came in the next game on October 8 against the Montreal Canadiens. This goal marked the first time a Swedish father and son both scored in the NHL (beating Robert Nilsson by 21 days).

Steen scored his first career hat-trick on January 4, 2007 against the Boston Bruins, ending with a 5 point game night

Assets Much like his father (former NHLer Thomas Steen), he owns excellent on-ice awareness and hockey sense. Possesses two-way ability and is very creative.
Flaws Doesn’t use his size enough and lacks consistency. Has had trouble finding his NHL niche. Goes through big dry spells in the scoring department.
