The highlight of the night came long before the opening faceoff. With the NHL trade deadline drawing closer and a tilt between Toronto and Carolina, the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference at hand, it was the last-minute scratch of Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Maple Leafs lineup that caused the biggest stir.
